Maria Osende

Maria Osende - flamenco and ballet teacher

Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Maria started dancing with Luis Fuente at age seven and later with Julia Estevez. A Fulbright scholarship took her to the School of American Ballet in New York City, where she studied for two years. Amongst her teachers are alsoKaremia Moreno. Maria studied flamenco at the renown Centro de Arte Flamenco Amor de Dios in Madrid. Amongst her teachers are Manuel Reyes, La Truco, Ana Maria Amahi, Inmaculada Ortega and Jose Granero. At fifteen she became one of the youngest members of the National Ballet of Spain (currently BND). At nineteen she moved to Berlin, Germany, to join the Deutsche Oper Berlin Ballet where she danced as a soloist a wide ranged repertoire of classical and contemporary dance during eight years, including choreographies by Jiri Kylian, Jose Limon, Meg Stuart, Maurice Bejart, Bill T. Jones, Hans van Mannen, John Neumeier and many others.

In September 2003 Maria moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) and started her work with her school and compay. In 2004, she premiered the Maria Osende Flamenco Company, obtainng rave reviews and since performs locally and nationally. In 2006 Maria founded Atlantic Flamenco Productions Society, a non-profit organization dedicated tobringing the best of flamenco to the Atlantic region. Maria started teaching regularly shortly after her arrival in Canada in 2004 and thoroughly enjoys teaching.She has taught at Maritime Dance Academy, Atlantic Ballet Theatre, Rosario Flamenco (Vancouver) and several summer dance programs across the province as well as at the Imperial theatre's Summer Dance School in Saint John, NB. She currently teaches flamenco independently as well as at MSVU through the recreational program and is part of the staff at Halifax Dance, where she teaches both flamenco and the professional ballet class.

Linda Palmer - Performing group coordinator

Linda Palmer started dancing flamenco years ago with El Viento Flamenco School of Dance, cotinuing since 2005 with Maria Osende. Flamenco has become one of the main passions in her life and Linda has participated in a number of performances related to the school as a dancer as well as ad organizer of events.

Linda is the coordinator of the Flamenco School's Performing Group "FOR THE LOVE OF FLAMENCO, a group of dedicated students committed to performing at various events throughout the year such as festivals, fairs and parties of various nature.
