Becoming a board member

Would you like to get involved and help us shape our way forward?

Atlantic Flamenco Productions Society (AFP), also known as Maria Osende Flamenco Co. is actively seeking engaged and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors. We are particularly interested in individuals with a background in finance or accounting.

The pandemic changed the performing arts landscape and we are eager to move on in new directions and take fresh input from new board members. This is an opportunity to contribute to Atlantic Canada’s performing arts landscape through the advancement of flamenco and Spanish culture, to expand your personal and professional networks, and to further develop your leadership and management competencies by volunteering in your community.

Our organization

AFP is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our mandate is to promote and disseminate flamenco and Spanish culture in the Atlantic region. We produce artistic, cultural and educational events enriching community life in the city, province, and region. Our main activities currently are our performance series ‘Flamenco Nights’, and the Maria Osende Flamenco Company, one of Canada’s leading flamenco dance and music ensembles and outreach programs. We also offer workshop and professional development opportunities for those interested in learning flamenco in partnership with the Flamenco Dance School Maria Osende.

While we will consider all expressions of interest, we are particularly seeking individuals with knowledge and experience in finance and accounting.

Our Board members provide leadership and direction to the organization and also support the work of the organization’s programming. They contribute to all aspects of strategic and operational planning and development, fundraising and financial management, communications, community outreach, and partnership development for the organization. AFP is a ‘hands-on,’ collaborative organization and our Board members contribute to both high-level and detailed work.

Board members serve two-year terms. The time commitment averages 4-6 hours per month with peak months when special events are coming up. Meetings occur every 6-8 weeks.
